Before working as a speech pathologist, I worked in the medical research field. I worked at the Queensland Brain Institute and Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. I am currently undertaking a PhD project at The University of Queensland (UQ). This PhD project examines current clinical practices for children with traumatic brain injuries.
As a paediatric clinician, I work exclusively with children. I have experience working with infants through to late-stage teens in a variety of areas – speech clarity, language impairments, complex communication and disability, reading and writing, stuttering and social communication.

Kids’ Speech Therapy in South Perth
Speech Clinic South Perth provides speech therapy across their childhood and teenage years who live in the South Perth area. We are strong advocates for early intervention. It’s critically important to recognise signs of potential speech, language, literacy or social difficulties, as this helps us to reduce future impacts on academic success and a child’s social life.
They’ll grow out of it, right?
We’re always asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. Earliest is always best. Speech and Language Therapists can provide treatment and complete assessments to kids from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This gives our children the best chance to be ready for school. Sometimes speech, language, literacy, fluency and social interaction difficulties can become noticeable throughout a child’s schooling years. We love to support school-aged children to reach their full academic and social potential.

Our early years communication development seminar slides will become available for download here, later today. If you attended this seminar and have…
The importance of teeth in speech
What to expect if your child has lost their front teeth prematurely “If your child has lost their front teeth ahead of schedule, while some sounds may be impacted, the overall majority of their speech should be clear”.- Lauren Crumlish https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoMaPEiVQVk Dentition and Speech Sound Development The topic of dentition (teeth) and speech sound development is a complex one. Often in clinical practice, if a child is presenting with significant…

Higher Level Language Development
With April Fool’s Day just passing, it’s hard for speech pathologists to not think about the significance of humour. While many people do not necessarily realise, humour is actually a skill that draws upon many language areas. As a result, many children that present with language delays and disorders can have a significant difficulty both understanding and using humour with their peers - and this is essentially because many areas…
