Speech Clinic Penrith supports children across their childhood and teenage years who live in the Penrith area. We are strong advocates for early intervention. Recognising signs of potential speech, language, social, or literacy difficulties is important, as this helps us to reduce future impacts on academic success and a child’s social life.
Should we wait and see?
We are often asked, “when is the best age to start speech therapy?”. Earliest is always best. Speech Therapists can complete assessments and provide treatment to children from 16 months to 18 years old. There is strong evidence supporting early intervention. When a speech therapist can support a child from birth until 4-5 years old, they can reduce the long-term impacts of a communication or language disorder. This provides children with the best chance to be school-ready. Sometimes speech, literacy, fluency, language and social interaction difficulties can become present throughout a child’s schooling years. We love to support school-aged kids to reach their full academic and social potential.
